The Pete Reed Memorial Project
Please join Pete’s family, friends, Aides brothers, and the Becket community’s efforts to honor and commemorate his life and legacy of service by learning about the project to bring a new medical station to Camp Becket.
Pete dedicated his life to helping those in dangerous conflicts abroad, including in the Middle East and most recently Ukraine. As a United States Marine and later as a leader of a non-profit focused on providing medical care to civilians in combat zones, Pete entered into terrifying situations to selflessly help those most in need.
At Camp Becket, Pete always put an endless amount of energy and spirit into any task--whether it was kitchen duty, a campfire skit or cheering up a camper having a tough day. His thoughtfulness to those who looked or did things differently than others was exceptionally admirable, and it's what made him who he was. His heart could never be questioned back then, and his commitment to service only grew from there.
It is heartbreaking, yet consolatory, knowing that Pete left this world in a place of service.
The man with the red bandana takes many forms. The commitment to service and kindness that the Becket community encourages can be put into practice in many ways. Pete is a wonderful example of what it is to be a Becket man, and we believe it is important that we recognize his tremendous courage, kindness and consideration, in particular, of what it means to help the other fellow.
Commemorating a life of deeds of service:
A new Medical Hut in honor of Pete
Camp Becket was always a big part of Pete’s life. He attended his first family camp at just six weeks old and was at camp nearly every year after that until he joined the Marine Corps--first as a camper, then as a leader in training on TLS and in the Aides program, as a counselor and staff member, and finally as a cherished alum.
In partnership with Pete’s family, the 2005 Aides have come together to raise funds for a new medical station for Camp Becket in the Berkshires, a tribute to Pete’s service as a medic helping those in need.
The medical hut’s construction will begin the coming summer session and will be built by the construction cabin program.
Thus far we have raised nearly $16,000 allowing camp to plan and begin the project, however we still need to raise another $15,000 to fully bring the project to fruition.
Please consider joining the effort to commemorate Pete with a contribution below.
